SUNDAY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENTS

If you love kids and sharing God’s love, have we got a job for you! Christ Lutheran is looking for new Sunday School Superintendent(s) for the fall of 2008. A job with great rewards of hugs, smiles & high fives!

The job is up to you – for the last four years we have had a short opening where we have celebrated Baptismal birthdays, learned the Lord’s Prayer, Books of the Bible & Creed, as well as some songs! We have a “slew” of Great Teachers just waiting for a leader or two. The current curriculum is one that is photocopiable and repeats every three years. New superintendent(s) would have the option to continue with this “user friendly” curriculum or decide on a new one for the fall of 2008 – YOUR choice.

Beth and Joyce have filled this position for the last four years and are willing to discuss the position with anyone who may be interested.  Give the office a call at: 352-4832, Beth at 949‑1310 or Joyce at 924‑2693 if you are interested in finding out more!

Think, talk and most importantly PRAY about it and let us know.  This is a VERY important ministry & a Great position for an individual or TEAM of 2 or 3.

ADULT EDUCATION SERIES

NOOMA - 10:10 AM in the Ed Centre - The  next Nooma will be shown on May 25th.

May 25 ‑ Sunday

Why do we do the things we do? Why do we go to church or give money away? Because we’re supposed to or because we think God needs it? Do we honestly put on our best clothes for an hour once a week, stand and sit at all the right times, and sing all the appropriate songs for God’s sake, or because it’ll make us look better to the world around us? We’re tired of all the empty rituals and routines. And so is God. God hates it when we call ourselves Christians but ignore all the things he really cares about. He hates it when we go through hollow religious routines out of some feeling of duty or obligation. God doesn’t want the meaningless rituals. God wants our hearts.

 STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE

“Trying to do the Lord's work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.”      Corrie Ten Boom

It is estimated that the cyclone has killed tens of thousands of people and left up to one million homeless. Cyclone Nargis, hit Myanmar triggering a storm surge and flooding in the five worst hit states, where more than half of Myanmar's 53 million people live. Almost 5,000 square kilometres are under water in low‑lying areas. Priority needs are for water purification tablets, plastic sheeting, basic medical kits, bed nets and food.

"Now is the time for us to act," says the Rev. Paul Johnson, GHDA coordinator. "We are a church In Mission for Others, a people called to respond to our Lord's invitation to help the least of God's children, those most in need of what we have in abundance. Your gift can make a huge difference." To support relief efforts in Burma, donations can be made by writing a cheque to Christ Lutheran indicating "GHDA ‑ Burma Appeal" on your envelope.

SMILES FOR TODAY

There is always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it. Right now, I'm sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt.  Barbara Johnson
