Mission Committee
CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH
MISSION COMMITTEE Previous or Former Guest Speakers/Events 2002 |

One of our chief responsibilities is to contribute financially to Grace
Gifts, which provide the funds required to staff and operate our National
Office. Throughout the year we contribute to Praise Offerings. These funds
are used for mission activities in the church. Our women have been faithful
in contributing to these funds, which is definitely an 'up'. We provided
financial assistance to CLWR, On Eagle's Wings, Circle of Life, and Metochos
Ministries. We attend and participate in workshops, spring conventions and
in 2004 several of our members attended the National Convention in Winnipeg.
Within our community and city, we are involved in the organization of the
ecumenical service for World Day of Prayer. We also assist with the Canadian
Bible Society Tea and the Lutheran Home Tea. In addition, the women of ELW
host a birthday party on a designated month at the Lutheran Home providing
entertainment, food and gifts. We have been providing 9 dozen muffins per
week to two community schools. Thank you to those of you who bake muffins at
home, attend the monthly muffin bees and deliver the muffins to the schools.
This ministry continues to be very worthwhile and necessary and well
supported another 'up'.
In our own congregation we share our talents and creativity whenever we are
called upon. This might be in the form of financial assistance, supplying
baking, providing prayer support through the prayer chain and individually
serving on various committees, singing in the choir, helping with Sunday
School, serving on Council.

A small group experience of 8 weeks, held twice a year, in which people
have a chance to share and explore their feelings of grief surrounding the
loss of a loved one.

Our bi-weekly men's breakfast group.
We meet every second Saturday morning for breakfast at Western Pizza located
at University Park Drive and Arcola Avenue. It has developed into a truly
enduring activity. There is no objective to the meetings except it is a time
of fellowship and an opportunity to exchange ideas and opinions. We spend
most of our time in casual conversation where we will talk about our church,
cars, farming, and world developments. Often there is a time of sharing
where we discuss a faith issue. Finally, there is a time of mutual support
that we give and take as our needs require.

Parent's get a break
Wednesday mornings at 9:30 to 11:30 am.
This is a time for mothers to come and enjoy some adult conversation with
other mothers - a time to discuss parenting skills, child rearing concerns
and all types of general chitchat over a cup of coffee. Babysitting
provided.

This wonderful ladies’ reading and discussion group is now in its’ fifth
year. Each month we read one book, then meet for an interesting discussion
followed by a lunch often inspired by the theme of the book! Currently we
have about 20 members...some read and attend every month and some read only
the books that interest them or when they have the time to read. We usually
have about 5 to 10 women out each month. It is a wonderful group and we
welcome any woman interested in reading!

Where we pray for one an other..Prayer Partners are a group of people in
the Church who secretly pray for each other for a year. Our year runs from
March to March. You may register for this program as an individual or as a
family. During the year span, individuals pray for one other individual and
families pray for one other family.

Silver Threads has again been the place for seniors to be on the fourth
Wednesday of each and every month. In spite of a typical Saskatchewan
blizzard in January, nineteen seniors showed up to enjoy the devotion by
Barbara Christianson and an afternoon of visiting and sharing. The rest of
the meetings were much better attended. Our membership has increased from
the original 31 to 61. This includes some associate members we are happy to
have.

A program in our congregation that equips lay persons to provide
distinctively Christian one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all
kinds of life needs and circumstances, both in our congregation and
community.
